Jurassic oysters on the high street? Carboniferous corals in the cobbles? Can you really find fossils on the historic streets of York? Join Dr Liam Herringshaw for the Great York Fossil Hunt on Sunday August 1st and we'll show you, yes you can!
The Great York Fossil Hunt is a free, family event, starting at 2pm on Queen's Staith, York. Booking is essential, and all under-16s must be accompanied. Everyone who signs up will receive our Great York Fossil Hunt guide to urban fossil-hunting, with a map of York showing good places to look. After finding fossils on Queen's Staith, you'll be free to hunt for them across the city. We'll then meet up again at 3.30pm in York Museum Gardens to see what people have found.
WARNING: you'll never be able to look at pavements and building stones the same way again.
