Key locations: York City Walls, York’s railway stations, York Museum Gardens, Treasurer’s House and York Minster.
On the York Air Walk, we’ll discover whose smoke and mirrors turned green and airy York into a railway powerhouse, which light Misses Hopwood and Harrison put their faith in, and which son of York was allowed to gas Queen Victoria. An aerial tour of the city that takes in sights, smells and sounds, the York Air Walk also tells you how to forecast the weather, photograph the Moon, and glaze the heavens.
We begin the walk at Micklegate Bar, taking the air along the mediaeval City Walls for a unique view of York’s railway and medical history. We float around North Street and the fragrant delights of York Museum Gardens, before hopping back on the walls to turn our binoculars on peregrines and our telescopes on demon stars, then gaze in wonder at the great east window of York Minster. In the York Air Walk, the sky’s the limit!
