Enjoy a guided tour of the night sky, focusing on objects in our solar system (the moon and other planets) as well as stars that reside far away from Earth within our Milky Way galaxy. Use our telescopes and binoculars to view a range of constellations and the objects that reside within them, including deep sky objects such as nebulae, star clusters and galaxies.
Dalby Forest is within the North York Moors National Park, which in December 2020, was designated an International Dark Sky Reserve by the International Dark-Sky Association, one of only 18 in the world.
Wrap up warm as it can get very cold on a night we will have lots of hot drinks and biscuits to help keep you warm If you have your own equipment please feel free to bring it, even a pair of binoculars and a blanket to lie on can be great.
We will have our indoor planetarium on standby in case the weather does not allow us to see any stars outside. Using this we can take you on a virtual tour of the night sky and even on a journey through our entire universe. This means we will only cancel an event if Dalby is inaccessible due to weather conditions.
This event takes place at our Dalby Explorer Hub, located in the Courtyard at the opposite end of the carpark to the main visitor centre. If you park at the main visitor centre carpark and then follow signs for the Dalby Bike Hub/Courtyard you will find us (please note mobile phone coverage is very poor in Dalby Forest). If you don't have a Dalby Forest pass to cover your parking charge then we will give you a code on the night to use before you exit to give you free parking.
This video shows you how to find us.
We will have free hot drinks and snacks, and there are toilets. We do not recommend dogs attend these events. There is no lower age limit but we find children over the age of 7 get the most out of these events. Please note all under 16s must be accompanied.
If you have any questions about this event please contact us.
